P.109 Meningioma with intraparenchymal abscess: a case report and review of the literaure

Background: Intracranial intratumoural abscesses are rare occurrences typically treated with antibiotics and possible surgical resection. This study describes a meningioma-associated abscess review of the literature. Methods: Medical records investigations were reviewed. A literature search PubMed was completed. Results: 56-year-old male presented septic shock dysuria. Urine culture isolated E. Coli, he Ertapenem prior to discharge. CT scan ordered during hospitalization for unrelenting headaches, revealing meningioma. Conservative management follow-up as an outpatient decided. However, returned within two weeks fever progressive left-sided weakness. right frontal craniotomy tumour resection performed, necrotic-appearing tissue revealed Coli. He Meropenem six weeks, at follow-up, patient asymptomatic. Our scoping illustrated that 18 have been reported in since first report 1994. Conclusions: case highlights hematogenous spread urinary infection, resulting abscess. Review indicated that, similarly, 39% cases had recent or concurrant tract infections. Future studies should seek determine conclusive guidelines diagnosing abscesses.
